Are you still wondering if you really need a furnace tune up?
One Pleasant Grove home owner is very grateful that he called us to do his furnace tune up! Because our technician, Richard, was very thorough and observant, he helped find a MAJOR problem that we were able to fix!
Upon completion of tuning up the furnaces, Richard looked around the mechanical room just to make sure everything in there was good. He noticed some soot on the water heater and decided to make sure that the venting system was working properly.
On further inspection, he found that flue gases had been spilling out of the water heater flue and getting so hot that it melted the plastic on the top of the water heater. The flue gases should be going out the vent, not spilling onto the water heater.
Richard called Jim out and he inspected the flue piping and found this in the attic. The venting had come apart and was not allowing the flue gases to leave the home. Instead, all of the flue gases were being forced out of the water heaters and filling the home with the exhaust from the furnace and water heaters.
What a dangerous situation for a home owner! Luckily, Jim was easily able to fix this venting problem and make this home MUCH safer!
We are so grateful that we have technicians like Richard, who go beyond the typical furnace tune up to make sure that home owners are safe! Great job Richard!

In Orem and Provo the leaves are changing colors, the harvest is here, and the crisp smell of autumn is in the air! You know what that means… it’s time to start thinking about getting your furnace tuned up! But do you really need a furnace tune up?
Would you drive your car without ever getting the oil changed? Much like your car, a furnace is a well-oiled machine that will run properly and more efficient when correctly maintained. Manufacturers recommend having a tune up each year. In fact, if regular maintenance is not performed on new equipment most manufacturers will not warranty parts or faulty equipment. It is so beneficial to the home-owner to have this done annually to guarantee fewer break downs, save money on utility bills, and prolong the life of your furnace.
As a home owner, you have many choices when it comes to furnace tune ups. There are some contractors or companies that will come dust off your furnace and give it a quick look over… maybe even change the filter. But as an intelligent homeowner, you are going to want to make sure that your furnace receives a professional, precision tune up.
Here are a few of the most important things that a technician should do during a professional tune up: clean the flame sensor, inspect the heat exchanger, adjust the gas pressure, test the safety controls, inspect the electrical connections, check for combustion air, test for carbon monoxide, pull and clean the burners, pull and clean the blower wheel, check for gas leaks, check the capacitor, check the blower motor, calibrate the thermostat, and of course… change the filter!
At Western Heating & Air Conditioning, those are just a few of the things that we do as part of our Precision Tune up! Our technicians are trained and certified to properly perform the necessary maintenance on your furnace. When you are looking for a company or contractor to help you get your furnace ready winter, make sure that it’s a company you can trust! We are proud of our Precision Tune Up!
