If you’re quite technically minded, good with a wrench and a screwdriver, you may consider tackling a heating repair job yourself – if you know what you’re doing, it can be a good way of keeping down the costs associated with running a heater, however, if you’re unsure, it can be an equally good way of emptying your wallet.
Before You Start
Before tackling any job like this, you should always try and be sure as to what the problem is and just what is involved in fixing it. A great tip – be honest with yourself, if you struggle to identify a wrench from a hammer, maybe you should get some professional help to repair the problem. Once you know where the problem is, you can work out if you’re confident enough of fixing it.
Safety
Be sure to minimize any risks – both in terms of power or fuel to the unit and temperatures – what may feel ‘slightly warm’ when held for a few seconds can easily turn into ‘feels like the sun’ when having to hold it for longer periods of time. Also remember that a heater is full of moving parts – try not to get your fingers or clothing trapped in any part of it. Would you lift the hood of your car and stick your fingers in the engine bay while it’s running? Nope.
Time
Leave yourself plenty of time to carry out the repair, even a professional can get things wrong if they are made to rush it. Another great tip – estimate the amount of time it will take you, then double it. We are sure that figure will be closer!
If you don’t feel confident enough to repair a heater (and let’s be honest, not many people can), then call the professionals at Western Heating and Air Conditioning. Always unbiased and professional. Contact us online to schedule an appointment.

We are living in a world where modern technology means that manufacturing costs are reducing, many goods are getting cheaper but the economy is still in trouble, meaning that the cost of living is high and many people are really having to watch where their money goes.
Energy usage is higher than ever – every home is jam packed with energy eating technology and the utility companies seem to be making the most of that.
Winter Heating
The number one biggest saving (aside from not actually having your heating on) is reducing the thermostat temperature by a few degrees. Obviously it still needs to be comfortable, but just a few degrees cooler will see noticeable reductions in your energy usage.
Summer Cooling
It is much more energy efficient to maintain a room temperature than it is to reduce that room temperature; keep the sun out of your home with the use of drapes or curtains, this can make a great difference to room temperature.
Keep those windows shut; while we love the smell and the feel of summer breezing throughout our home, it can increase your energy usage dramatically. Your air conditioner unit will constantly be trying to cool your home as you let more warm air in. This will see a significant rise in energy usage and of course, could lead to premature failure of your unit.
Servicing
Whatever the season, professional maintenance and care will mean that your system is working at its best, and while that isn’t exactly free money (in terms of cold hard cash), it will certainly reduce those energy bills.
Whatever your HVAC needs and requirements, call the experts at Western Heating and Air Conditioning. Our team of professionals are happy to give knowledgeable and unbiased advice, meaning that you get the best solution for your particular need.

Looking for a heating and cooling company? There are hundreds (at least) to choose from, a quick search on the internet will reveal just how many there are.
So how do you find the best?
For many, personal recommendations are the way to go, a recommendation works because they are coming from a trusted source; your family, friends and co-workers are people that you know and you already trust their judgement, but what if you have no friends or family to ask?
In this day and age, you’re more likely to pick up your phone or tablet than pick up that so outdated method of a phone book; a few simple taps on the screen will usually get you the information that you need, at least to start narrowing down the selection.
Locality
hile the internet is a brilliant piece of modern technology, unless you search specifics, you’re just as likely to find companies 30, 40 or even 50 miles away from your own zip-code.
Think local!
Accreditation
Most trades have an organising body, whilst it’s no guarantee, there is a good chance that if they belong to that organisation they will understand the importance of a job well done and just what it means to have good customer relations.
Social Media?
It may sound a little silly, but companies that have good social media presence do so because they want to interact with their customers. Poor service will mean that they have no customers to interact with.
