Why is My Heat Pump Leaking Water?

Posted on September 29th, 2015

Heat Pump RepairYour heat pump should not leak water. No ifs, ands, or buts about it. If this is happening, it could be caused by something problematic. The Western Heating & Air team decided to discuss what these problems might be if your heat pump is indeed leaking or dripping water.

Refrigerant Insulation

Refrigerant is a key player in cooling your home. However, if it is lacking insulation or there is a tear in the insulation, water could be dripping out and onto the surrounding area. Make sure to check your insulation on your unit to ensure it’s properly secured and doing its job.

Coil is Dirty

If the coils used within your unit are dirty, this can cause water to leak. That is because water is supposed to slide down the coils and into a drainage area. However, if the coil is dirty, the dirt traps the water from sliding down the drain, but instead the trapped water eventually just drips down the coil to the floor.

Coil Icing Up

The coils in place within your heat pump unit are not supposed to ice up. But due to malfunction, sometimes they will. This ice can melt and turn into condensation. If this is the issue, you may need a professional to assess what’s wrong with your unit.

Heat Pump Problems Need Addressing

Don’t let water drip from your heat pump and not do anything about it. The qualified technicians at Western Heating & Air can figure out your heat pump’s problems and ensure a solution!

Water Heater MaintenanceMaintaining your water heater – keeping it healthy throughout the year – is easy to do. The pros at Western Heating & Air suggest these tips that you can do yourself to keep your water heater in good working order.

Periodically Drain Your Water Heater

Your water heater is constantly heating warm water for your home’s use, whether that’s for a shower or for an appliance. As such, it’s constantly working water through its system that can get dirty from standing. After turning off your heater, drain the water from the tank. There is a spot underneath the heater itself where you can actually attach a hose for the draining.

After Draining, Allow a Water Cycle to Go Through

You’re initially draining your water heater because sediment and deposits may have collected in the tank. To ensure that all of this material exits the tank, run a full cycle of water through it while you have the drainage hose connected. This ensures, as best as possible, that your water heater tank is getting thoroughly cleaned out.

Refill the Tank

Refill your tank with new water and then turn it back on. This is clean water that will give your water heater and tank a better performance in the long run. Again, the sediment and buildup is not good to let sit in your tank; in fact, it can lead to popping noises, if you don’t drain it periodically.

A Newly-Filled Water Heater is a Happy Water Heater

Your tank needs the occasional flush to get the standing and sediment-filled water out and get the good, clean water in. Beyond these do-it-yourself maintenance tricks, if there’s anything with your water heater that you’re not comfortable doing, call the Western team for service with care!

Orem UT Indoor Air QualityThe town of Orem has earned the nickname of¬†Family City USA, so that’s telling of how welcoming Orem is to anyone. Some of our favorite things to do in town in the fall are unbeatable! The family and crew at Western Heating & Air like these top autumn activities!

Go to an Orem Owlz Game

At the Brent Brown Ballpark, grab some popcorn and watch your local team. Root for the Orem Owlz! The season runs into the fall, so be sure to catch a game in September before the team is done for the year.

Visit the Historic District

The Christeele Acres Historic District is located in the heart of Orem. It’s full of history, as its roots were started in the steel plant industry of the town. This movement in history caused a huge burst in Orem’s economy and lives on in the historic district today.

Visit a City Park

Orem abounds with city parks! From Cherry Hill Park in southern Orem to¬†Bonneville Park in the north, Orem’s Parks and Recreation department promotes healthy lifestyles with outdoor activities. Our personal favorite is Mt. Timpanogos Park!

The team at Orem considers this city to be the best in Utah. We love it here, and we hope our customers do too! Try these autumn activities – suggested by the Western family – to have a great time in Orem!
