As we get closer to the New Year, it is a perfect time to go through your annual HVAC maintenance checklist. Properly maintaining your HVAC system has a long list of benefits. Not only will your HVAC system last much longer, but it also can help lower your monthly utility bill by keeping your system energy efficient. Here are a few things that you can do to keep your HVAC system in tip-top shape for 2016!
Replace Your Filter
If it has been a few months since you have replaced your air filter, you may want to check if it needs a new one. If you routinely use your HVAC on a daily basis, you will want to change your air filter at least every three months. If you intermittently use your HVAC system, once or twice a year is recommended.
The New Year is the perfect time to call your local HVAC expert for an annual inspection. Getting a regular inspection by a professional can help prevent costly issues from arising throughout the year. They will be able to make suggestions for making your system run more efficiently, make any small adjustments or repairs, and check your system for safe operation.
Carbon Monoxide Detector
New Year’s Day is the perfect time to replace out your carbon monoxide detector’s batteries. Perform a function test it to ensure it is running properly. Your carbon monoxide detector is necessary to keep your family safe during the cold winter season.
Old HVAC? Consider Replacement
If your HVAC system is between 15-20 years old, you may want to consider replacing your HVAC system and installing a new one. Older models are much less energy efficient and can be costing you much more per month than a newer system.

My family loves the winter! We love the snow, the sledding, and having hot cocoa by the fire.
But there are a few things I really don’t like about winter… I really don’t like it when I’m trying to brush my daughter’s hair and it starts flying everywhere because there is so much static in the air, or when I go to give my son a hug and he shocks me! I also hate it when my kids wake up with dry throats, sinuses, and even get bloody noses. Not to mention the colds and viruses that spread so easily! And what about the dry cracked skin? I don’t think I can buy enough lotion to keep us hydrated!
Guess what!? I found a solution to this horrible, dry winter air that was wreaking havoc on my family!
We simply installed a whole house humidifier in our home and our dry air problems are gone! My daughter’s hair is much more tame, I can get a hug without a shock, and no more bloody noses or sore throats. Best of all, my kids are healthy, not getting sick as much, and we aren’t wasting time at the doctor’s office! Oh, and I’m not buying lotion by the gallon anymore! J
It’s time for you to start loving winter again by keeping your family healthy, and we want to help! That’s why we are offering a FREE humidifer when you purchase a furnace or $50 off the installation of a whole house humidifier until Feb. 29th. Call now or click here to schedule your humidifier installation today, so you can enjoy a comfortably humidified home, and start to LOVE winter!

When one of your appliances goes out, it always seems to create a domino effect around the house. If your furnace needs replacing, is it worth it to replace your AC at the same time? Well, it depends on a few different factors. Western Heating and Air Conditioning always wants our clients to save money and get the most out of their heating and cooling system. Here are a few things to consider when replacing your furnace or air conditioning system.
How Old Is Your System?
When you are replacing a furnace or an AC, you need to consider age. If either system is older than 15-20 years, it may be time to replace it. Older models aren’t as energy efficient and can be costing you considerably each month in energy costs.
If either your furnace or AC is giving you problems, it may be time to replace it. Frequent repairs can get costly. If repairs are exceeding half the value of your system, that is usually when professionals recommend that you replace it with a newer system.
If you are replacing either your furnace or air conditioning system and choosing a system that is much more eco-friendly and energy efficient, it may be worth replacing both your furnace and AC at the same time. Ask your heating and cooling professional about the tax benefits you can receive when you invest in high-efficiency appliances. Over time, these improved systems pay for themselves.
Ask a Professional
When in doubt, ask your local heating and cooling specialist about whether you should replace both systems at once. They may be able to tell you specific options based on your home that may sway you one way or another.
